Non-keratinized Integument

The epidermis of nonkeratinized skin appears uniform throughout. The strata are not pronounced. The top layer is still alive because it is found in the mouth, esophagus, anal canal and other moist areas.

The dermis contains many blood vessels and of course no hair and less collagen than keratinized skin. There is a a lot less adipose which is scattered in the dermis and the muscular layers.
